You are in Florence, you are in Tuscany, you love fabrics, you work in fashion, you cannot miss the Textile Museum in Prato.
Florence to Prato takes 15 minutes by train and then a little walk. The building of the Museum del Tessuto is very interesting by itself as it is set up inside one of the historic factories of Prato, now restored and become part of the great works of industrial archeology.

It’s a great mix of history and manufacturing of textiles old and new and also a great display of modern fabrics with the possibility to touch some of the materials on display.

The path traced along the initial corridor presents the production cycle of the fabric in its essential phases but the museum deals with the history of textile production.

The phase of transition from traditional production to the actual fashion product through innovations in the field of material research are presented .
As well as historical textiles and excellent educational displays about textile production, this museum tells the story of low-quality and mechanically regenerated wool, for a long time the specialty of Prato. We can say that Prato was a forerunner of recycling.

It’s a great mix of history and manufacturing of textiles old and new and also a great display of modern fabrics. With incredible temporary exhibition and beautiful restoration works.

Sincerely, take a day to visit Prato, the Museo del Tessuto, you’ll find many interesting places like the Duomo, and the Centro Pecci. It has been a pleasant surprise also for us living in Florence for so long.

I will definitely visit when I go with my family in April. I had the pleasure of meeting Simoneta and her dad fourteen years ago for a cooking class! ❤
