
When we wake up in the morning we love a scent of coffee, or is the scent of coffee that wakes us up?
Some Italians drink an espresso, that we don’t call it espresso but Caffè. Somebody drinks a Latte, we don’t call it latte but CaffèLatte.(latte is the word for milk in Italian)
Somebody needs just a scent of coffee and we can find it in this cake: Torta al profumo di Caffè, Cake with a coffee scent

Ingredients for a 24 cm (9 inches)tin pan.
300g (2 cups) 00 flour/all purpose/plain flour
3 medium size apples
100g (7 tbsp) butter
120g (8 tbsp) sugar
25 amaretti di Saronno cookies/biscuits
4 eggs
1/2 packet (1 tsp) baking powder
1 lemon
1 glass (200 ml -5/6) cup of coffee
4-5 tbs. milk
a pinch of salt
Pre heat the oven at 180°C(350 °F)
Melt the butter
Grate the lemon zest
Soak the amaretti in the coffee.
Cut the apples into thin slices and let them in water with a squeeze of lemon for 10 minutes

In a bowl beat the eggs with the sugar
Add the flour, the salt ,the grated lemon zest, the melted butter, the milk and lastly the baking powder and mix everything well.
Cover a cake tin with parchment- paper
Pour half of the mixture into the cake-tin
Place a layer of apples
On top place a layer of amaretti, without squeezing out the coffee

Cover with another layer of apples

Pour the remaining part of the mixture
Bake in the oven at 180°C(350°F) for approximately 1 hour

Serve it with whipped cream,yogurth, gelato or by itself as it is quite soft.
It’s not compulsory to have it for breakfast,you can enjoy a slice at tea time.
